Oh crap

Been busy working and trying to squeeze in time for my driving license studies so I havent really gotten the time to write here. Spent the last friday evening playing Wii on the big screen with some co-workers. Man my right arm is sore now. :D

Nonthing new on the computer front. A couple of new servers at work to replace the old one, im thinking of dedicating it to Xen so we just can play around. Everybody has their own "computer" to setup things on.

Over and out, im going to get ready for the feast of a thousand hams.

A real swedish xmas dinner

Yesterday the whole company and their better halfes went out for a great big xmas dinner. Many kinds of herring. :D
One of the coolest things about the evening was the old school locomotive driven by steam. The rented the whole train and we swooshed on through the night in the beautiful landscape of Scania.

A new toy

Been looking for a while for something new to keep me occupied and I think I've found it.

This little baby is ordered and hopefully it will entertain me, and possibly I will learn something. I have a idea that I wish to make reality but more about that later if I succeed. ;)

In other news, hopefully I will get my Wii this week. Stupid think sold out to fast even though I was quite early to preorder.

Back to basics

Been alot of downtime for me between blog posts. I went to Stockholm for the freenix2006 conference and it was nice. Looking forward to EuroBSDCon2007 in Copenhagen. :-)

Gotten myself some new hardware for my workstation, Intel Core2Duo 1GB of ddr2 ram and a geforce 7600GT. Not top notch stuff but a good start for my computer. Going back from laptop to a real workstation cause i need the raw power when developing. Of course i installed the GNU/Linux distribution Gentoo on it. Its still the best distro out there imo. Not for new users but if you have the time and interest to tinker with almost everything.
And for the motherboard i tried something new. Always been in favor for asus motherboards but this time I tried something new. MSI P965 Platinum and its really good. :)

Lots of stuff happening at my job. New office right in the city center of Malmö. Which means a new network, servers, routers and gateways to setup but everything should be up and running by now.

Currently reading

On my way to Istanbul for a job conference one of my coworkers was reading something interesting. He threw the book to me and let me take a quick look at it and I was hooked.
Joel on software is a damn nice book mainly about programming and computer topics. What you need to know about certain stuff, some ranting about other stuff. All the things you can read about on www.joelonsoftware.com but in a nice book form. Ill bring it with me on my flight tomorrow so i have something to read on my way.

And on that topic, going to Stockholm tomorrow for the Freenix2006 conference. My first time in Stockholm actually so im hooking up with a old army buddy of mine so he will show me the city and where to grab a nice dinner. :-)
Havent seen him for about 4 years so im really excited.

Todays tip: "Rum Plantation" from Trinidad year of production: 1993
Damn nice rum my girlfriend gave me on my birthday.

A new blog

So, a new blog. Well I got tired of running my own wordpress. After the fatal harddrive error on my precious "sunkburk" (somewhat slang in swedish for crappy computer) I bought a new 250GB harddrive for it, just for keeping backups from my powerbook.
Since i dont want it running 24/7 in my apartment and wasting harddrive after harddrive I decided to host my domainname dopefish.se on a friends computer. Lucky for me this friend works at port80 i get 100Mbit/s for free just to store my pictures i want to show friends and family. :-)

About me and this blog then. I decided that I need a new blog now that I have started a new job. This job requires me to write in english all day, speak english in meetings and to be polite and articulate. Since I really havent been polishing on my english for a while I might need to get it up to date by writing more than the specs i do every day. As you might imagine, im a programmer for a large company.
And the name of the blog? Well it came to me after a pointer from a friend that stated, "dude, thats som nerdy behavior when I instead of laughing said "LOL". :'(
